Occupational Therapy
What Is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy helps children engage in meaningful daily activities also known as their occupations. For children, these occupations include learning, playing, socializing, and developing independence in daily routines.
Our therapists focus on building the fine motor, sensory processing, coordination, and self-care skills children need to thrive at home, in school, and in the community.
Who Can Benefit from Occupational Therapy?
Your child may benefit from Occupational Therapy if they:
- Struggle with handwriting, cutting, or using school tools
- Have difficulty dressing, eating, or completing daily self-care tasks
- Are sensitive to certain textures, noises, or movements (sensory challenges)
- Have difficulty with coordination, balance and motor planning
- Show frustration or anxiety during everyday activities
Our Approach
At Matrix, we believe therapy should be personalized, evidence-based, and functional. Our occupational therapists work closely with families and when appropriate our ABA and behavioral teams to provide truly integrated care.
- Evidence-based practices ensure each intervention is research-driven
- Play-based sessions help children stay engaged and motivated
- Family coaching empowers caregivers with strategies for success at home
- Individualized plans are built around each child’s unique needs and goals
Clinicians
All our occupational therapists are licensed by the state and trained in evidence-based pediatric care. Each therapist is dedicated to supporting children’s functional growth, independence, and confidence through compassionate, family-centered practice.
Integrated Care with ABA / IBHS
Our collaborative model integrates Occupational Therapy with ABA and behavioral services to provide a holistic approach. By coordinating across therapies, we ensure progress is reinforced in every environment – home, school, and community. Families benefit from personalized, cohesive plans that address both communication and behavioral goals.
Services We Offer
Our occupational therapy sessions are available in multiple flexible formats:
- Individual Therapy — one-on-one sessions tailored to each child’s goals, such as motor skills, sensory regulation, or self-care routines
- Group Therapy — small peer groups focused on social participation, cooperation, and functional play
- School Based Therapy — services provided to the school districts through 504 plans and IEP consultation services and sensory program
- Push-In Sessions — OTs work alongside ABA or speech therapists to reinforce skills across disciplines
- Teletherapy — virtual OT services delivered through secure platforms for families who prefer at-home access
Initial Consultation or Evaluation
We make the therapy process simple and transparent:
- Referral & Intake – self, internal, or medical referral initiates the process
- Initial Consultation – office manager will conduct initial phone calls to gather any additional information needed (Insurance cards, referrals).
- Evaluation — comprehensive assessment, develop a personalized plan of care, and goal discussion
- Therapy Sessions — weekly sessions begin once the plan is agreed upon
- Progress Reviews — ongoing updates ensure goals are being met and adjusted as needed
At Matrix, we don’t just teach skills — we help children apply them meaningfully in everyday life.
